Stevie Gordon is a multimedia artist currently residing in Northern Virginia. They are currently an Art and Visual Technology Student for New Media and Graphic Design at George Mason University’s School of Art. Which they will be graduating from in Fall 2022. In addition, Stevie is currently overseeing the construction of the website for the Senior’s Fall Exhibition Show, which will also showcase some of the works produced in their Discontentment series.

In the Discontent collection, I have created a series of images that use altered photographs, and traditional and digital illustration techniques to reckon with physical and mental afflictions I’ve experienced. My compositions can also be described as intense. As it is for many artists, the process of creating art can be a therapeutic one and therefore often used as a coping mechanism. Gordon also uses this technique. Being both queer and disabled individual, as well an Asian American, they have often felt out of place or unhappy in numerous circumstances. Situations such as those can often lead to feelings such as rage, estrangement, and even helplessness. It is this sort of strong emotion that serves as the muse for the artist’s more intense compositions.

My project is about my life and how I would (and still do) make comics to escape the traumas of my everyday life. Along with making comics I would watch anime on VHS tapes to get inspiration. My story will be a sad one covering topics of being a young lone black kid in an predominantly white school, discrimination for my hair and skin color, and the recent years of finding myself and gaining confidence. TITLE: Healthy Escape From My Reality.

For my project I wanted to create a series of character designs for a game concept I have been working on. My first objective was to run through various concepts of characters and what kind of abilities they would use in this theoretical game. From there I ran through various design concepts of each character, trying to visually convey aspects of their personality and abilities. Once I had refined those ideas, I made three turn arounds that I used to create a final illustration of each character.

Ideally these would be characters that players could select in a game to fight with, in a brawl style player vs player experience. I needed these characters to appear strong and capable while maintaining their personality. My hope is that players would see these illustrations and identify with a character based on their visuals and be willing to have that character represent them in a virtual world as a form of player expression.

This project has been a simulation of the artistic process used by concept artists in the game industry. I want recruiters and game studios to see my work and know that I can problem solve, design characters, and execute polished illustrations that are easy to understand by technical artists and 3d modelers on the team.

It was around the age of five where my imagination took hold of me. Every cardboard box, piece of paper, and roll of tape I could find was being used to create toys and sculptures. Often these creations would be crude attempts to replicate fascinating imagery from my favorite TV shows or video games. This passion to record that which I love and connect to has stayed with me. It has made me the artist I am today.

For the past few years I have grown to love character illustration. Characters act as a bridge for artists to walk within their favorite memories and interests while being boundless in the face of creativity. Ed, Edd n Eddy was and still is my favorite cartoon. This project was an outlet to share just a small amount of love I have for this show. Within the show there is a flower know as a Baby Blue Gym Sock. I selected this imagery to be the core of my project not only for its simplistic beauty, but because I knew it could be transformed in a way that would transcend average respect for the show. Before you is a fashion collection digitally tailored to grasp the appeal of the public, while simultaneously singing out to those who were equally as entertained and inspired by this cartoon just as I was. This small journey has sparked a fire to continue to bathe my characters in the memories that brought me joy all those years ago.

I am a pop culture lover and artist and goal-driven Graphic Designer successful at applying technical skills to create art to inform and engage people. My design concept is a fusion of the artist's unique perspective and public aesthetics. I like all trendy cultures but also highly respect the traditional culture. I believe that while innovating, we must not forget the essence of traditional culture. At the same time, I believe that art that has its own unique ideas and can be appreciated by the public is the most successful. From the artist's point of view, everything has countless projections. Everyone's unique experiences and feelings will make people see different projections. I believe a good artist can resonate with many types of audiences and viewers. Being able to attract and keep the attention of diverse viewers is worth striving for and it is the key motivator for me. What makes me unique as a designer is that I have learned many art forms from different cultures, and I can combine the characteristics of these cultures and forms to create something new. I don't stick to the form of art, I agree with every reason for the existence of art. I personally also adhere to the artistic concept of simplicity and beauty.

It is a work that shows the perception of multiple identities as well as the aesthetics and ambition as an artist. Each poster is associated with my own story and background, they represent the stories I have experienced and the way to tell these stories is my aesthetic as an artist, a designer.

My artwork derives from veristic surrealism, created digitally that mimics traditional methods, such as the marks of a pen and inconsistencies in line quality/thickness. I don’t believe art should have meaning or context, rather the value the audience can make and pull from, in which the meaning of art is for art's sake. Whether it looks like it belongs in a children's book or the cover of a book/magazine, my artwork is designed to spark the imagination and invent a narrative within the viewer's mind.

The goal of this project is to create large illustration pieces to spark the audiences imagination and interpretation of what the meaning and value of a piece, with or without context, really is. I aim to accomplish this with the use of illustration work borrowed by surrealism, fantasy, and science fiction.

When it comes to the human race and technology, there is a natural divide between the two. However, I see it in a slightly different way as a balance between them. In my artwork, I represent both sides in abstract ways using various materials. For the human side, I use materials such as napkins, a sock, my arm, a paint roller, and other miscellaneous objects to describe the inherit chaotic nature of humanity. The technological side uses more rigid materials such as office supplies, coat hangers, and simple objects that leave distinctive lines behind. As for the meaning of the artwork, while it’s presented in an abstract form, shows that the two sides need each other as one wouldn’t exist without the other. The chaotic nature of humans, gives way to the structured, more rigid forms of technology. This creates a slight harmony between the two, even though they are different from one another.

A balance between the chaotic side of humans and the rigid, structured side of technology. Uses many different materials to show the meaning and symbolism of the artwork. Black paint as the main medium of use, with various other materials used to provide the abstract nature of the art.

Kenny Le's series is a set of three mockup comic covers alongside concept art of the displayed character within the covers. The goal of the series is for Le to display works relevant to his goal in working in the comic industry through showing an example of his ability to create character and cover designs. The first part of the series is a character sheet displaying the front and back of a designed character. Character design work is common within the comics industry and is usually accompanied by a character sheet to display the character's outfit and appearance. This is used as a reference for artists to ensure they accurately portray characters within the interior pages of a comic and its cover. The other part of the series is to display the ability to create visually interesting covers and pinups depicting the character. The mockup covers are inspired by the diverse variety of covers within comics, like how one piece converts the character's usual outfit into a modern streetwear look, something that can be seen in many variant covers, and another piece focusing on using negative space. Each cover in the series will be unique in design from one another to showcase a variety of different aesthetics that is common in cover work.

Art has always been in my life for the longest time from childhood up until where I am today. Now as a designer I am able to create my works digitally and visually communicate with people. I like to create cute art styles because it represents myself in a way as a unique person.

For the senior project I wanted to convey my Korean culture in a way that can get people's attention while at that same time giving information. That's when I have the idea of making stickers and create a sticker website. Everyone of all ages loves stickers because they are cute and visually attract attention. The stickers themselves will show Korean culture that people know and didn't know. The website will provide information about what each sticker represents and everyone will be able to interact with it.
