My art as a multimedia specialist visualizes ideas through mediums that are mainly technology based. Using digital media like animation, video, sound art and digital printmaking; the visuals the I compose effectively communicates and express the ideas of myself and others. In my project “Visual Rhythm”, I decompose parts of a rhythmic beat and match it with different elements of a subject (which in this case is the sport of basketball). In this film, I plan to help the audience explore the importance of each instrument involved in a musical production. Each individual part of a beat holds great value into the development of a finished track.

The bass line of the instrumental is connected to the release of the jump-shot. The bass of an instrumental serves as the heartbeat of a song. In this case, I connect it to the jump-shot release because this function of the sport is what's unique about any individual who participates. Just like how we all have different functioning hearts and souls, each song has a unique bass line that gives the song its "soul" and characteristics.

The "clap" or the snare of the instrumental coexists with the make of each shot in the video. After a perfect release from a shooter, the ball is most likely to make it through the goal. Same goes for the rhythm of a song. After an effective bass line, there is always a snare to follow up and bring the beat together in a timely fashion.

The hi-hats of the beat works together with the dribbling of the ball in this visual. In order to maneuver about court with the ball, you have to dribble it. This is the most constant rule in the game of basketball which has evolved beyond measures throughout its entire existence. The hi-hats of the beat can also be compared in such manner. The hi-hats serve as a backdrop to the main elements of the bass and snare, but it is a portion that you have to intake throughout the whole production. More complex hi-hat patterns have been explored throughout the years of hip-hop, adding the triple hi-hat is what compares to this experimentation in this genre.

Being able to combine and deconstruct these elements in relation to another subject will encourage viewers to be more attentive about each section of production. Maybe the person who is viewing this video could care less about basketball, which is completely fine. But having this inside-out view in any subject gives an individual better understanding and appreciation of the pieces that are combined to develop a product or idea.

Art has always been in my life for a long time. I enjoy working within different media, as it helps me grow and develop unique ideas for diverse projects. I've always been amazed at the beautiful styles, mediums, and information made into designs where ever I went. It inspired me to get into graphic design. As a designer, I aim to create something that others will enjoy and add my creativity to my work.

Through this senior project, I wanted to do a picture book on my dog Jet. I've always wanted to illustrate and include my dog as the main character in a book. The book shares all of the funny and trouble-making moments from Jet. This story showcases his personality and his thoughts each moment he is doing something bad. You will enjoy all of the cute and troublemaking moments from Jet throughout this illustration book!

Areej Rizwan is a graphic designer passionate about portraying classical elements found in Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures as well as her religion to build a bridge of reinforcement and cultural connection with others in society. Her work consists of representing the experiences and stories of others and transforming them into innovative designs. Her dream is to create positive change, whether big or small, to help future generations understand their purpose in a world so unknown and often mysterious. She lives by the statement: "My success is only by God" [Quran 11:88]. She believes that success, power, and guidance all come from God, and with strong faith and dedication, you can get through all obstacles in life.

In her project, From the Origin, Areej designed a clothing brand that reflects the visual language of her home country, Pakistan, a combination of Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures. The goal was to bring awareness and educate others on the differences in these cultures and appreciate the textiles, colors, shapes, patterns, and languages represented. She wanted to share the voices of those underrepresented in mainstream media and showcase its uniqueness to others. She created two cultural and traditional garments, An Abaya and a Shalwar Kameez, which are staple clothing pieces. She used designs found in architecture, books, streets, textiles, and traditional structures to create her clothing pieces. She named her brand, Sabaa, meaning a gentle breeze as it conveys messages, spreads them through different channels, and shapes meaning. She wants her brand to fill the void of misrepresentation in mainstream media and appreciate the differences we all have in society.

I have always wanted to be creative and work in multiple areas to evolve and keep my mind active. Graphic Design is what allows me that opportunity day in, day out whether it is working with print, digital or both! The constant need to adapt and problem solve in this field is something I enjoy because it pushes my limits as a creative, and allows the opportunity to work with other like-minded people. And even working with others who you’re at odds with can bring about lessons. My goal is to never stop learning and absorb and practice as much knowledge as possible.

Justin Ruiz

Justin Ruiz

Influenced by Japanese art that of 漫画家 (Manga artists) and that of cultural pop art . Ruiz creates artworks with the mediums of photobashing, animation, digital illustrations all with these themes in mind. The intent to bring two unlikely concepts under the same metaphorical roof has been an idea Ruiz hopes to achieve with the several mediums by either combination of individually. With the goal of showcasing that any art regardless of origin can connect with those who view it but also can connect with ideas that would contrast their own. Ruiz’s process to ensure this idea and concept is much more than just an idea and concept as observed common materials used in Manga alongside that of Pop art during its initial artistic movement found similarities in terms of production, what's appealing to the larger demographic in mind for both of these ideas.

Theorist Laura Mulvey coined the term “male gaze” in her 1973 essay "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema," Ruiz showcases this exact concept within his series of 9 illustrations of the female physique broken down, while replicating and mimicking the loud and bright style found in pop art to emphasis and draw more attention to the broken figures and focus on the male gaze hence furthering Laura Mulvey coined term of the male gaze while bringing the irony of this concept from a male’s perspective.

Before I became a Graphic Design major, I wanted to major in Art History to become an art historian or conservator. Art from all time periods and all areas of the world fascinates me, and I wanted to include my love for it through my senior design project.

My interests in the world of graphic design and art-making range wildly, and I love to explore new ways of creating and solving problems. From hands-on printmaking to digital and UI, I strive to keep my mind open and to always be inspired. Throughout my education and career I have maintained a passion for the arts, art history and most of all design, and I hope to share that with the world through my work.

Art history can inspire growth, beauty and new beginnings. This project serves as a blending between graphic design and art history, using plant life as a catalyst. The mission is to connect the past, present and future with informational seed packets inspired by historical art and design. Each seed packet is inspired by a different time period in history, reflecting that period with a plant that represents the art of the time.

By planting new life while looking back at its significance throughout our human story, we can begin to think deeper about our past and the importance of meaning. All the while, we can inspire and look toward the future as we grow and change through time.

Finding John Doe is a long-form comic about a ghost with amnesia facing the realities of his death and the afterlife. The comic is a mystery, comedy, and action-adventure story exploring identity and purpose. Finding John Doe will continue after its first chapter online as a webcomic. Having my story be presented as a book and webcomic is essential to my process since I am both a traditional and digital artist. My work consists of illustrations, comics, and zines using a mix of digital and traditional mediums. I enjoy working with the mundane mixed with the magical or spooky, focusing on character narrative and romance. I knew I wanted to make a comic from the very beginning. Comics are my best form of storytelling, as they are the greatest influence on my artistic process. Through my original characters, I can hide my vulnerabilities and experience more powerful emotions than I could ever be able to as myself. The main character of my comic, John, does not know what is happening to him or why, and he can not run away from it; he has to find a way to carry on. The story's core is about grieving what you lost and what could have been but moving forwards with what you have now.

A lot of my earliest memories include a pencil in hand and dreams of being an artist. Primarily, the art I make combines line and color, but I am also fascinated with juxtaposition. My marks are loose and controlled. I contrast the detailed and the gestural along with improvisation and the premeditated. The sublime and the profane fight and often gel with one another. I strive to illicit any emotional response from the viewer. I seek and find inspiration from the entire history of creatives. Old masters, Expressionism, Surrealism, illustration, movies, animation, cartoons, comics, and mass-produced disposables are just a few. I am drawn to the beautiful and the absurd. Often, I create art that reflects the zeitgeist but feels timeless. I like to explore the earnest and the frivolous. I have a cartoonist’s anarchic spirit, so my art is often infused with humor. I try not to shy away from transgressive impulses and accidents are always welcome. I set boundaries for myself, then go wild within those self-imposed rules. I mainly work with traditional media such as pencil, ink, charcoal, and paint but want to include digital tools in my art. I hope a little piece of my id and personality are displayed in each of my works.

Fascinated with the malleability of clay, what better symbol of life animated from the lifeless as the golem? Distortion and humor, texture, shadow, and character were considered when creating these compositions. These eerie totems represent the grotesque and playful, malformed creatures ripped from the earth and cast into a nightmarish limbo of perpetual torturous ecstasy.

My name is Cleo Wolfe, and I create weird low-brow designs. I am highly influenced by 90s grunge-era aesthetics and modern technological concepts. Before becoming a designer, I was a cybersecurity specialist for 4 years. During my time, I became more and more jaded with the concept of smart devices and the overall concept of the Internet of Things. I also became disheartened as more and more people that I knew fell prey to hackers trying to steal their valuable information.

"Your Home of the Future" is a fictitious PSA that pokes fun and explores the idea that while we may become more and more dependent on smart devices; without knowledge of how hackers can trick you, we become ignorant and easy to prey upon.

As an artist, I want to create playful, awe-inspiring pieces. When I first started out, I would make art with just graphite and colored pencils, but throughout my art career I realized there are many more mediums, and I was determined to try as many as I could. I wanted to expand my skill set by creating both two dimensional and three dimensional art with wood, metal, and other materials. In high school, I discovered a love for digital art. As I continued to work digitally, I realized my real passion is painting in college; there’s something about applying the paint to the canvas and physically creating with my hands that is much more satisfying and allows my work to flow. I love to create vibrant works of art with dynamic color palettes. I want to bring out the whimsical side of the viewer to make them feel like anything is possible.

The only constant in life is change. People are always transitioning and evolving as you live and learn. Transition can mean different things. For some it's a change in career or a new hobby; for others it's a revelation that affects everything in your life. My transition was medical and took me 6 years to get to where I am, but the journey is never over. There are only pauses. My journey is mine alone and your journey is unique to you, but similarities can always be found. I want to show my revelation and hopefully there's a part to relate to.

When it comes to art, I love all forms of it. I mainly pursue photography, branding, and illustrations.

I wanted to redesign 3 album covers that I think need improvement. It’s different from the original because it’s about me. I choose a hip-hop album, a country album, and a reggaeton album. These albums mean a lot because it’s a history of how my music evolved throughout the years. I choose to do album covers because I love music. Ever since I could remember, I was always singing and dancing. My vision for the design aspect is to show surrealism. I used mainly photoshop to manipulate the photos to give them a surreal look. I tried to stay away from the standard album covers that you see. In the back of the album covers, it explains more in depth about the meaning behind each concept.

The Marshall Mathers LP Around this time, I was in middle school. I was trying to find myself and who I wanted to be. Along the way, I discovered that I like doing my hair, playing with makeup, painting my nails and being obsessed with the color pink. I wanted to reflect my girly side by adding pink clouds and butterflies. I also kept some of the elements of his songs to the album cover. I included fire as a representation of the anger and violence that his songs portray.

Crash My Party The twirl effect is a representation of my experience and memories. On the bottom right is a photo of a plane. Around this time, I was flying back to Virginia from Bolivia. We don’t have beaches, so that summer I planned a trip to the beach. One of the memories was eating ice cream. I remembered vividly of how different the taste was comparing to Bolivia. On the bottom right, is a photo of a driving car. Around this time, my sister was teaching me how to drive and we used to drive for hours late at night. The crowd on the phone represents the excitement that the songs bring.

Emmanuel This album is exciting and upbeat. This is the type of genre that I’m currently listening to. Right now, I’m feeling excited to graduate. That’s why I wanted to include a graduation photo. I think more than ever, I’m just trying to have fun and enjoy my life. As I’m getting older, time has played a big part of my life. I just want to feel like I’m not wasting time and going to the right direction. The photo of the stairs represents a new chapter.
