The Digital Aquarium combines my primary passions into one big project: illustration, animation, and arts and crafts. The animation technique is a style called rotoscoping that involves drawing each frame by hand, one by one, over a video of the real fish to replicate the way that they move while having an illustrative touch. Each frame being so clearly visible to the viewer while still depicting accurate movement makes rotoscoping a fascinating medium to observe.
The booklet that serves as a companion to the aquarium goes into detail on the various types of fish that are displayed, along with a few more. It is geared towards new fish owners, having information on popular and easy to take care of fish that would be vital for them to know. While it is geared specifically for beginner fish keepers, it also serves as a general facts book for people to learn new things about these fish.
The booklet is handmade and in the style of a popup book. The fish can come alive and jump out of the book just by turning the pages, and can be further manipulated via pull-out tabs that enhance interaction. My goal with this digital aquarium is to create a unique experience that people can refer back to fondly.
