Artist Statement: “This mural is an ode to my late Grandma Flora. 🌸 The main inspiration behind my piece was Manassas becoming a nationally recognized Bee City. I have always loved flowers and pollinators, especially considering their critical importance in our worlds systems and ecology. The focus I held was on native flowers to the Northern Virginia region that are pollinator friendly. I did a lot of research on different flowers, plants, and shrubs that can be found in this area, so maybe viewers would recognize those flowers in their neighborhoods. I got the information from plantnovanatives.org. I hope people take away from my mural the importance of pollinators and supporting them in our world and daily life, as we would not have many food systems without the work of pollinators!”
