DESIGNER STATEMENT: As an artist from Bangladesh I wanted to portray a part of my culture and find a way to do it in an effective way. Watching Nokshi Katha quilts being embroidered has been big part of my childhood and as an adult I almost forgot that they existed. My approach was to present as much information and images I could for this project, as it’s something you must look at to understand the process of these quilts being created. It’s not a form of South Asian art that’s often talked about, such as henna design. I wanted to show the influences these embroidered quilts had on Bengali literature and even in fashion. Since it’s an informative book the typography is kept simple, with many images to go along with it.
