ARTIST STATEMENT: The zeitgeist is not picky. It’s easy to write off the media we dislike as trash, but that “trash” is just as much a reflection of our society’s values as what we deem good. “Trashy” media is still fulfilling a need. What you’re not watching still exists to an audience of fans. To understand the cultural landscape of any given time, both “highbrow” and “lowbrow” media must be understood as valid works worthy of meaningful consideration. This work gives two forces of media an equal platform to provide a larger sociocultural context to audiences of both.
