ARTIST STATEMENT: My series, Sub: Liminal is my way of working through the feelings of anxious anticipation I feel about my future. This was already a feeling I knew well but the conditions of isolation and monotony within quarantine have exacerbated that disoriented feeling. Liminality is a complex subject—it is explicitly ambiguous. Liminal spaces are the transitionary locations we experience. They are constant in our lives and yet never our focus. The feeling of waiting before something is lost once the feeling of what you were waiting for comes to be. Thresholds, portals, hallways are solid locations that because blurry and soft in the memory. Like watered pigment, these locations exist in a shifting state in the mind. The fluidity and the thinness of watercolor feels right for the subject. It is soft and fluttery when I want and edges form when you focus on them enough. The subjects are defined enough. They are familiar and foreign, known but unclear.
