ARTIST STATEMENT: With my work I aim to capture what I find myself being encapsulated by in the world around me. This interest stems from my love of viewing both the rigid documentations of our world and the creation of many fantasy worlds through film and novels. For this series, What’s Left Behind, I wanted to respond to the current world-wide pandemic currently going on. While being trapped at home I found myself wandering in my mind, imagining how the situation we were in now was like so many horror movies I have seen before. As I traveled around this modern wasteland where I lived, I noticed all of the little things that have been left behind by those who have been forced out of the public area by this pandemic. Latching on to this notion of people being removed from society and seeing what stayed behind created these ethereal moments for me that amidst all the chaos brought me to a feeling of calm. Seeing how things left untouched by those who created them would seem so helpless without them.
