ARTIST STATEMENT: The idea behind The World Tastes Good began as an attempt to measure time by how quickly fruit flies can eat their way out of sugar glass.  The flies controlled the rhythm of the piece with their life cycle.  No sooner had one generation been born that they fed, reproduced, and died. What started as an exploration about the metrics of time quickly turned into a distortion of presumption. Expectation gave way to fluidity, both in the physical manifestation of the sugar globe and my own perception of the piece. The flies that performed in the final iteration were the grandchildren of those in the dress rehearsal.
