ARTIST STATEMENT: By using these miniature wooden figures I address my concerns about climate change through simulations of fires, floods, and earthquakes. Images reflect figures on fire, already burned, drowning in water, or being buried alive in dirt. Representation of violence is used in order to get the message out that climate change is real and that everyone needs to do their part to stop it. Fires have already occurred this year in Australia and on the west coast of the U.S. The ice caps have been melting causing sea levels to rise. From my research I have found that Washington State is predicted to be severely flooded in 2045 and major parts of Washington D.C. is predicted to be underwater in 2100. The number of earthquakes around the world have increased since the 1900’s with some of the biggest earthquakes occurring between 2004 and 2014. Overall these images are to show the rise of these climatic events and the emotions people feel over the destruction and death caused by them.
